Photographer and Wine Professional |
 |
|
Jason Kallsen is a photographer and wine
professional. These primary interests are reflected in his
current works, focusing on winemakers, modern and traditional
winemaking practices, and the terrain of particularly great
vineyards that develop "taste personalities" or what the French
would call "Terrior."
|
|
To celebrate the opening evening of
Art-A-Whirl, Kallsen Studio will be hosting a wine tasting
reception on Friday, May 16th from 5 - 10pm. Meet the artists
and view their current works while sampling a variety of wines
and cheeses. Kallsen Studio will keep their doors open for the
remainder of Art-A-Whirl weekend, although with considerably
less libations available.
Kallsen Studio is a collaborative endeavor
between husband and wife, Jason and Angela Kallsen. While each
maintains an independent body of work, their shared love of wine
and travel has influenced their art, and brought a synergy to
their collections.

The ancient
art of mosaics is thriving in Minnesota with plenty of
surprising new twists in wall art, mirrors, sculpture,
furniture, windows, picture frames and much more. Come to the
Thorp and CBC during Art-A-Whirl to see the amazing kaleidoscope
of colors and patterns displayed in a 4,000 sq ft warehouse.
Over 25 mosaic
artists will have their works featured, with a selection
available for purchase
The Minnesota Mosaic Guild (MMG)
is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to the
enjoyment and promotion of the mosaic arts. Several of the
group members are nationally and internationally recognized mosaicists. Guild members have created large public
installations as well as privately commissioned work, with local
attractions including Sheryl Tuorila's benches for the Ridgedale
Library; Barb Keith’s work decorating libraries in St Paul and
St. Cloud; and Lori Greene and Maria Ricke's mosaic sculptures
in the Midtown Global Market. The new magazine "Mosaic Art Now"
features MMG’s Cathy Weeks, Sharra Frank, Mike Sweere, Lisa
Arnold, and Barb Keith, who selected among submissions from all
over the world.

Placement Gallery presents: Pure Pleasure: 10 Years of Curating
from Yuri Arajs
Suite 125 in the CBC A group exhibition
of 20 artists that have shown with
Yuri Arajs in the last 10 years, a
kind of curatorial retrospective. |

JAO |
|
Reception with the artists Friday, May 16th from
6 to 10pm
Featuring live speed painting performance by JAO & music by DJ
Espada.
Pure Pleasure: 10 Years of Curating from Yuri Arajs,
brings together twenty artists that Yuri Arajs has shown over
the last 10 years.
The reason for doing an
exhibition of this type, at this time, is because it will be the
last major exhibition Placement Gallery will be producing in
Minneapolis for a while.
Yuri Arajs is moving to Canada this summer and he wanted to do
an exhibition that celebrates the many artists he has had the
pleasure of working with.
“It’s impossible for me to do an exhibition that features all
the artists I’ve worked with. This show will be a small sample
of some of the amazing talent this city has to offer “, says
Yuri. This exhibition will
also be the largest exhibition Placement Gallery has done. It
will be held in a 12,000 sq ft warehouse space next to the Thorp
Building in NE Minneapolis, the original home to Art-A-Whirl.
